Local Youth Initiative

 
  • The Marin County Suicide Prevention Collaborative has initiated development of a Caring Cards program for the community. Following a national trend, Caring Cards include handwritten messages of concern and acceptance to such patients who self-define as socially excluded, abandoned and burdensome.

  • Peer-to-peer restorative, trauma-informed strategies to transform the juvenile justice system. Anyone between 12 and 25 can participate on the Peer Solutions Team. Click here to learn more.

  • Their school-based programs are heavily focused on substance use prevention, specifically through the Friday Night Live framework, an evidence-based approach that centers the physical and emotional safety of youth as fundamental to youth-led action. Staff lead a total of 7 programs across all secondary schools in Novato, CA. In addition, they lead two community-based programs: The Marin County Youth Commission (MCYC) and Marin Organizing for Racial Equity (MORE). Click here to learn more.

  • Stimulates positive community change by promoting awareness, education, and legislative action regarding substance use and misuse. Click here to learn more.

  • Founded in 1969, the Marin County Youth Commission (MCYC) is one of the oldest and most well-regarded youth commissions in the United States. Made up of 23 youth aged 12-23 years, MCYC’s goal is to act as a political voice for young people — particularly those in underserved populations, including youth of color, youth with disabilities, homeless youth, rural youth, and LGBTQ youth — by engaging with the Marin County Board of Supervisors and other policy makers.

  • Marin 9 to 25 is a collective of Marin County youth and adults focused on realizing positive and equitable outcomes for youth age 9 to 25.

 YfJ develops youth leaders that organize to implement environmental prevention policies that make our communities healthier and safer. Visit their website here.

  • The Youth Action Team (YAT) of OD Free Marin is dedicated to serving young people and uplifting the youth voice. The team is led by youth and adult allies seeking to reduce opioid misuse through prevention, harm reduction and treatment in Marin County. Visit their website here.

  • Carrying out suicide prevention awareness and education campaigns in partnership with Marin County Office of Education, the Marin Schools Wellness Collaborative, Marin Schools Wellness Collaborative, and other Community-Based Organizations in Marin.
